school. He won the Oklahoma Kids
Wrestling Association Championship twice and finished second in
Nationals. He also won the Oklahoma Jr. High Bull Riding State
Championship in 2008 and 2009.
He credits being an all-around
athlete with helping him grow and
get strong.
Major growth during the season
was one thing Eldred said he experienced.
“I’ve matured a little more,” he
said. “Got the traveling down. I’m
used to it. I’ve gotten a little smarter
in my traveling.”
He also said he’s “Learning to
pick and choose what I go to make
it easier on myself. I don’t have as
much nerves.”
His traveling partner is another
Oklahoma native, Sage Kimzey.
Both are young cowboys on the tour
and have grown up together in the
rodeo circuit. The two are part of a
group of cowboys who are all from
Oklahoma and all from the same
area code, 580. “A bunch of us
guys from Oklahoma started calling ourselves #580 when we were
riding in the amateur and open
rodeos, and then when we were reconnected with Kimzey – after high
school rodeo, it just kind of took
off,” Eldred said. “Sage and I are the
exact same age, and we started out
young together. It was cool getting
to travel together.”
Both continue to compete in
PRCA events until the national finals
that will be in Las Vegas in December. “Last year was my first year to
qualify. This year has already been
much better,” he said.
