Jean Bryan in her college days than you were when you met her. I think she instills and exudes a moral compass and a sense of values that you rarely see. She touches people quickly. Just a genuinely beautiful person.” Bryan also became heavily involved with local education, especially Weatherford College, where she served as a trustee 1999-2013 and now serves as member emeritus. WC’s Vice President of Institutional Advancement Brent Baker met her in 1997 when he started working for the college. “Jean Bryan, to me personally, is a motherly-type figure,” he said. “She welcomed me to this community and has always been supportive and caring, a diehard [in support of her community], funny, gregarious. … I could come up with many other words. She’s just a special person; I have a real soft spot in my heart for Jean Bryan.” Baker said Bryan genuinely cared for students and tirelessly supported WC. Bryan and her husband in 2001 established the Dr. Noel Bryan Veterinarian Scholarship to assist pre-vet students. The Jean Bryan Scholarship was established in 2007 by the WC Foundation to honor Jean Bryan. She also received the 2006-07 Carlos Hartnett Award. This award is a non-annual award given by the WCF executive committee to individuals who encourage giving to WC. Bryan was constant in her encouragement and unwavering in her belief in the power of education. “In my opinion, in this day and age we really need to make sure that our children, especially our daughters, get a good education,” she once told a local writer. “It’s important that they get the kind of education where they can make a decent living and not have to depend on some man. Now days that’s especially important because, unfortunately, not all marriag- es last forever.” TEXAS BUTANE CO., INC. Morris & Judy V. (Kemp) White South Side Square • 103 W.
