artificial sweetener xylitol. If
you feel your dog deserves a
Thanksgiving treat, try feeding
them something bland such
as plain turkey, green beans,
carrots, or even homemade
dog treats.
The Clean-Up
Once everyone has eaten and
the time to clean up comes
around, remember to dispose
of food properly and out of
your pet’s reach. Leaving trash
bags of food out is potentially
extremely hazardous for your
pets. In many situations, pets
get into the trash and consume
more than just food. Concerns
beyond food itself consists of
turkey carcasses, bones, bags,
and strings or papers used to
cook with. Dispose of poten-
tially dangerous items in a
trash bag in a tightly closed
dumpster or trash can either
outside or placed behind a
latched or locked door.

The After Math
After the holiday festivities
have ended, keep a close
eye on your pets in case of
gastrointestinal upsets or stress
related issues. Some common
symptoms to look for are
lethargy, distended stomach,
whimpering, or sensitivity. If
you notice anything unusual or
alarming in your pet’s behav-
ior, immediately call your
veterinarian and let them know
if your animals’ condition is an
emergency.
