our taste: RESTAURANT REVIEW
The Hills Are Alive with the Taste of Tex-Mex
El Cerrito Mexican Bar and Grill — Small Restaurant, Big Flavor
BY THE WEATHERFORD FOODIE
A
El Cerrito. The restaurant was clean,
service and food were both excellent,
and they even have coin-operated
gum machines for the kids, or young
at heart, as you exit.
I will be returning to El Cerrito
Restaurant soon and I will bring
guests. Recommended!

As I was waiting, I listened to the
traditional Mexican music that was
playing. Soon Julio returned with my
enchiladas, rice and beans, and also
a green salsa they had made just for
me because I like spicy food.
Made from tomatillo tomatoes
and plenty of peppers, jalapeño and
others, the green salsa had heat on
the back end and lots of flavor up
front, I really enjoyed it and there
was no charge for it.
The chicken enchiladas were
some of the best I have ever had,
made with shredded chicken and
tortillas soft enough to cut with a
fork. They screamed quality and
the sour cream sauce was a perfect
compliment.
Chicken enchiladas are my quality
test for any Tex-Mex restaurant and
these quickly became my personal
favorite. I really enjoyed my meal at
friend recommended a
great Tex-Mex restaurant in
Springtown, just east of FM 51 south
of Highway 199 at Old Springtown
Road called El Cerrito Mexican Bar
and Grill.
Situated in a shopping center on
the east side of the road, El Cerrito
dominates the center and allows for
easy parking. I entered through the
glass doors and was greeted by a
hostess who led me across the clean,
brown-finished concrete floor to
some Mexican food. I was seated in a
booth in just about the center of the
restaurant with no companion on this
trip. I was dining solo.
Soon, I was greeted by my server
for the evening, Julio. He suggested
several of his personal favorites,
which all sounded scrumptious and
presented me with a large menu.
Everything looked good, but I went
with my old standby --chicken enchi-
ladas with sour cream sauce. I told
Julio I enjoyed my enchiladas spicy
and he said he would take care of
me. I felt special and, well, errrr,
taken care of.
After bringing my requested glass
of iced tea, I was presented with a
basket of freshly made tortilla chips
and a container of red salsa.
The chips were deliciously light
and the salsa was incredible. I asked
the manager, Terry, what brand of
salsa it was and he informed me,
no brand, they make it fresh in the
restaurant every day. The salsa was
made from fire roasted tomatoes
and you could taste the difference. I
looked around and observed a large
restaurant decorated with Mexican
décor and several large-screen tele-
visions scattered about the space
among the many tables and booths.
I also saw a large covered outdoor
seating area to enjoy listening to one
of the live bands on the weekend.
