our pets: DOUBLE RESCUE How to save a life, or two BY KATIE RODGERS Against the odds, two dogs are rescued despite facing potentially fatal illnesses NOVEMBER 2015 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY Chip and Jelly Bean were a helpless duo, both dumped carelessly at the Springtown Animal Shelter. They were recovered by Officer Jennifer Kennedy, who transported them to the Weatherford/Parker County Parker County Animal Shelter, where they could be groomed and cared for. But these were severe cases with little hope of survival. 88 Chip, an older, grey Shih Tzu, was so matted that his fur was beginning to cut his skin. While being groomed, traces of cancer were found beneath his fur.  A senior canine with a fatal disease, Chip’s chances of being adopted were low. Six days after his arrival, Chip found a home. Along with Chip was Jelly Bean, a dapple Dachshund. WPCAS staff discovered Jelly Bean was heart worm positive, something her new owners would have to treat if they wanted her. Like Chip, however, she didn’t last long in the shelter, with Nikki Logan adopting her the next day. Nikki discovered Jelly Bean through a friend’s post on Facebook. She fell in love immediately, despite
