didn’t realize it when I fell in love
with you, nothing else in the whole
world would matter. You revived my
heart to love again. You gave me the
confidence to trust again. You are
absolutely the most gentle and patient
man I have ever known. Your laugh
is contagious and you always have a
glass half full. You are the prize here
and so precious to me. We have had
so much fun laughing and learning
new steps together, and then our lives
changed. And somehow God gave
us the most precious love that I have
ever known. So here I come, Gary
George, I am ready to be your bride.”
And then, the bride appeared,
glowing as she walked down the aisle
to meet her groom, who was moved
to tears. In sync with the music that
continued to play, the bride repeated,
“My Gary George, I love you,” three
times, as the guests were seated.
Tears of joy flooded the room.
Bill Cerbone conducted the
ceremony, explaining the importance
of the number seven in the Bible. He
reflected on the months since the
boat wreck, where the couple spent
their days together in the hospital and
in rehab. After exchanging vows and
rings, the groom tilted his wheelchair
into the reclining position, his humor
ever present, as he puckered his
lips to kiss his bride. Laughing, she
leaned down and gave him a kiss,
then another, and they continued to
laugh together as the audience joined
them. Finally, at the end, Bill Cerbone
pronounced them husband and wife,
and they went back down the aisle as
Dr. and Mrs. Gary Grote.
