decided to semi-retire and they determined to “get out of
the snow.” She knew Texas somewhat because she kept
pleasure and reining horses with Pilot Point trainers and
often visited the state and even lived here a while.
“I was living in McKinney when I met my husband,”
Steege explained. “We
met at the Quarter Horse
Congress in Ohio, which
was kind of a fluke, because there were a zillion
vendors there. I was there
closing out my clothing
line [Lady Reiner] with a
company that carried my
line, and he was there
with his company. He
actually went by my booth
… then came back a few
times,” she added with
a giggle. “But the funny
thing is that for all the
years I lived up in Minnesota he lived probably
25 miles away. He was in
Quarter Horses and I was
in Appaloosas so our paths
never crossed. It was serendipitous.” They’ve been
married thirteen years.
How did they get to Parker County?
“On our first anniversary we took a trip to San Antonio,” she recalled. “And returning we took a road trip up

They actually ended
up in Strawn next door in
Palo Pinto County. They
drove on towards Weatherford and at a small store
she came across a local
real estate magazine featuring Silverado.
“I had been out here
with my girlfriend at a
cutting,” Steege said. “So
I told my husband ‘you
need to see the Silverado,
it’s a beautiful, beautiful
place.’”
Needless to say, he
liked what he saw. They
built a home on 14 acres
and here they are, with
their three head of cattle
and three horses.
They’ve both always
been around the horse
industry. They were both
“What I see through the lens of
my camera inspires me, and
draws me to the Magic of Light
and the Mystery of Shadow. This
is an intuitive response. Through
photography I am able to experience the moment, suspend
time, and share my vision. I
love to explore people and cultures, near and far, to tell stories
through my camera. The world
is my palette.”
