our community and making some
great friends in the process. We still
have clients that used my dad and
we have had the business for 18
years now. Word of mouth in this
community is the best advertisement
anyone can have. Being a small
family-owned business really gives us
the opportunity to meet everyone we
do work for. Having someone in your
home that you know you can trust is
very important. Our clients know us
and can trust that we will do the job
and do it well.
PCT: What is the most difficult part?
Michel Kinder: The most difficult
part is trying to compete with other
companies that come and go with
very competitive prices that we know
we cannot even come close to charging. We know with those prices we
cannot make a living, pay employees,
buy gas or anything it takes to run a
business correctly and ethically.
PCT: Would you recommend this
field to others? Why or why not?
Michel Kinder: Sure, I would recom-
mend this field to others; it is a great
business. Everyone has flooring of
some type that needs to be maintained on a regular basis, otherwise
they start to look worn and dirty.
Residential homes with carpet need
cleaning to keep them clean and
keep away dust mites and pet odors.
Everyone wants clean floors, whether
it be tile or carpet, for their family
to walk around on or children and
babies to crawl and play on without
the stress and worry of them getting
germs. And, the air ducts in your
house or business are just as important to keep clean. Dust settles in the
ducts and makes the air you breathe
dusty, and also makes the house
dusty, which leads to more cleaning.
If your ducts are clean, you notice a
big difference in the amount of dust
in your home and the quality of the
air you are breathing is much better.
PCT: What advice you would give to
others looking to start a business or
going into this field?
Michel Kinder: If you are wanting
to start a business in this field, I’d
say, “Sure, go for it.” Just be ready to
always hear how every other company is charging so much to clean my
carpets. If you want to be able to stay
in this business, you must be able to
charge what it actually costs to do
the job and do it correctly, and still
cover all your expenses, and that’s
just not possible if you are cleaning five rooms for only $99; so you
must have faith in God and that He
will send you the best clients. If you
are an honest company and do the
best work possible, earn trust in your
customers, the company will grow
and it will be a successful business.
PCT: What is something interesting about you that others might not
know?
Michel Kinder: Well, something interesting about Matt is that he actually
went to school for music in college.
He can play lots of instruments, but
his favorite is guitar. He has been in a
few bands back in upstate New York
where he grew up and has played at
the Apollo Theatre in New York City,
which is a great accomplishment.
