Joshua Burnett who had talked with
a local cattleman Bill O’Connor. The
long-time cattleman is a big fan of
Beefmaster Cattle and he had some
show-ready Beefmaster heifers and
was wondering if Burnett had any students who were interested in showing
some of his cattle.
Rebecca came to the ag teacher’s
mind.
“And that same day I called him
myself and I told him who I was, and
that I was really interested in showing
heifers. I didn’t know how expensive
it was or how to do any of it, and he
said, “Well, I tell you what, you come
out to the ranch and check them out
and see what you like, and we will
talk more then,” Rebecca said.
Rebecca went out to the ranch and
went walking through the pastures
and was looking at all of the cattle.
She also said that O’Connor was very
helpful. “I’m learning things from him
all the time.” Rebecca said.
Now, four years later, the two
younger sisters are following in Rebecca’s boot steps.
"They progressed quite a bit, I get to
teach them to do stuff," "They’re most
studious about it, they do a really
good job at researching stuff. They
work hard on showmanship. …Becky
and Gracie have helped me pull
calves out when the moms ca
