I moved out here in 2002 from
Arlington is so we could do this,”
Day said. “I love older horses.”
By “this,” Day is referring to how
she rescues older unwanted horses
like the skinny sorrel, nurses them
back to health and either keeps them
or makes sure they go to a great
home.
The skinny sorrel was given the
name Kit. Day and her friend with
the camera rescued the gelding from
the slaughter pen.
“Most of the time these are really
good, gentle horses that are trained
and make wonderful saddle horses,”
Day said. Sometimes they’re great
horses that have been champions in
the show ring, or on the racetrack,
and for some odd reason they fell on
hard times or the people who owned
them fell on hard times and, through
no fault of the horse, ended up in a
“kill sale” — a horse auction attend-
