Doss Heritage and Culture Center #4. Put the Pedal To the Metal Get the kids (and yourself) off the couch and try a bike ride. The almost seven and a half miles of bike/walk/jog trails beginning at Heritage Park (First Monday Grounds) winding through the trees to Holland Lake Park and then to Bose Ikard Elementary are relatively easy for riders of all ages. The cost is free and parking is available at the lot behind the Weatherford Police Department on Jack Borden Way and Santa Fe Drive, Bose Ikard Elementary off Bankhead Highway or at Holland Lake Park. On the trail an abundance of wild life including deer, raccoons, squirrels and birds can be seen early in the morning or late in the day. Stay to the right of the yellow centerline so serious bike riders and joggers can pass you. #5. Doss Heritage and Culture Center JUNE 2015 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY The museum has just opened its new exhibit titled, “When Cowboys Gather, Exploring Western Music,” which helps visitors discover the songs of cowboys on the trail as well as those seen in the movies. It accompanies the Center’s Log Cabin Concert Series benefiting the planned Log Cabins of Parker County project. Belinda Gail is the featured performer on July 9. Permanent exhibits tell the story of Parker County’s earliest inhabitants, pioneers and cowboys as well as movie and Broadway stars that hailed from our area. It’s a great overview of the county for those who are not natives and the kids love the stagecoach in the lobby. The Doss Center is located at 1400 Texas Drive in Weatherford and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with extended hours Thursday evenings until 8 p.m. Admission to the museum is free. Tickets to the concerts are available on the museum’s website at www.dosscenter.org. #6. History Alive! A special program for kids offered at the Doss Center is History Alive!
