our taste: RESTAURANT REVIEW Take Me To The River – Brazos River Catfish Café BY THE WEATHERFORD FOODIE Situated in western Parker County, bordered on the north by IH-20 and the west by the Brazos River, in a building that predates IH-20, you will find the Brazos River Catfish Cafe. The restaurant opened in the fall of 1999 and never looked back. When you arrive, you notice a well-maintained, inviting building next to the Brazos River and in the shadow of the beautiful Brazos River Bridge. You see a building that appears to be an old gas station with windows that say, “Brazos River Catfish,” inviting you in for a feast. You enter to see an array of bright, colorful, classic artifacts that transport you back to a different time; Elvis memorabilia, newspaper clippings and items from an earlier time abound.  We waited to be seated on a busy Friday night and we were led to one of the many tables. The vast menu includes items such as catfish, frog legs, shrimp, hamburgers and steak that will suit any craving.  My companion and I started our meal with the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. As we enjoyed the eight slices fried perfectly and served hot with a tasty dipping sauce, we chose our entrees of fish and shrimp. The preparation is done to your preference — fried: regular, Cajun or Memphis; or grilled: lemon pepper or blackened. Along with your meal you have an array of sides to choose from: French fries (fresh cut on request), sweet potato fries, baked potato, baked sweet potato or veggies, cole slaw or a dinner salad, pinto beans and hushpuppies, or you can select the other sides listed on the menu. I had the three-piece catfish dinner and three fried oysters. My companion had the grilled shrimp. We were both pleased with our selections and enjoyed them both. The grilled shrimp especially was presented beautifully and had a wood-fired flavor. Even though the menu states “our bread pudding is to die for,” we finished our meal sharing a piece of homemade pie (chocolate). You can tell from the crust and meringue that this pie, Weatherford Foodie can be found at weatherfordfoodie.com, on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp, Urbanspoon, Foursquare, and Pinterest. PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY Brazos River Catfish Cafe is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. It is located at 10771 IH-20 in Millsap, Texas. They can be reached at 817-596-2994, on Facebook or at www.brazosrivercatfishcafe.com.  JUNE 2015 as well as the entire meal, was made fresh by someone who takes pride in what is presented. I wish I could have found out the name of the gentleman running the dining area; there was nothing he would not do to keep his customers happy. Superb job, sir!  Brazos River Catfish Cafe can be a bit difficult to find. From IH-20 take Exit #394 and go west 1.5 miles on the North Service Road.  The restaurant will be on your left before crossing the Brazos River Bridge. If you have the opportunity to go there, you will not be disappointed and will find the drive to be totally worth it.  Moderately priced. 105
