She took a public speaking class
through Tarrant County 4-H. “It was
a course that was taught by a college
professor,” Landrie said.
She went twice a week for two
hours, and wrote five speeches. At
the end, they all had to deliver a
speech in front of all their fellow
classmates and all the parents in
attendance.
“She was very impressive,” Willis
said.
“We took turns the first three
weeks, two minutes max … the
final week we did the whole thing,”
Landrie said. “Our speeches ended
up being like seven minutes long.
Calf shows and rabbit shows are
great, but this was a different type
of work. 6-9 at night. It was a big
commitment.”
The group included at least 35
adults.
“She did, ‘A Recipe for Life,’”
Willis said.
Landrie delivered an organized
speech for seven or eight minutes
with confidence.
Will Landrie pursue more public
speaking classes? “Yes, we have
speech meets at school,” Landrie
said. “I enjoy that. I made it to the
district speech meet.”
“She is a very good public speak-
er,” Willis said.
Landrie delivered a portion of
JFK’s inaugural speech last year.
Trinity Christian has a debate
team for their high school students,
something she is eying for possible
future involvement.
Even with her schedule freed
up a bit since she decided to take a
step back from the cattle show ring,
Landry’s plate is still awfully full for a
13-year-old.
During the summer, she usually
participates in three Bible stud-
ies each week. “I like to do one on
my own,” she said, “and then one
we’re doing in school and my youth
group is studying about David. I’m
currently doing Sadie’s Robertson
newest one called, Live Fearless, and
school theme is about the legacy you
leave behind, how to leave the right
legacy.”
Her mother laughs, “Clearly, she’s
a better person than I am.”
