Hailing from Richmond, Texas,
Amanda Edwards loves calling
Parker County home, and considers
both her backyard and Holland Lake
Park her favorite places in Parker
County to enjoy nature. She loves
Parker County’s rich history and
considers herself “blessed that my
job allows me to take care of that
history for future generations.”
This George Washington
University graduate found her
dream job in Parker County as cura-
tor at the Doss Heritage and Culture
Center (DHCC).
“I have my dream job being able
to research the past and find ways to
creatively communicate that history
to the public,” she said. “If I had to
do something else, it would have to
be a job where I could be creative
and design something.”
Edwards sees the moving the two
log cabins to the Pioneer Cabin Park
to be her proudest achievement thus
far.
“It took four years of planning
and lots of support but I am so
excited this project is going from
dream to reality,” she explained.
“When I was a kid, my mom would
take my siblings and me to a histori-
cal park in my home town. They
had moved several historic buildings
to this ranch and let people tour
them and experience what life was
like in the pioneer days. Those trips
shaped my love for history and what
I do today. As we work to move
cabins and get Pioneer Cabin Park
open, I hope someday there will be
kids that look back and remember
their experience here at the Doss
and Pioneer Cabin Park and how it
sparked their love of history.”
Edwards says that her role model
in her life is her mom, because she
has “shown her what it means to be
selfless and caring towards people
no matter the situation.”
Edwards overcame the difficult
postpartum depression in 2016 after
giving birth to her son. She found
out how challenging it was for a
