PARKER COUNTY AG WORTH THE WAIT DANSA DENSMORE BY KATHERINE ROSE A Weatherford High School graduating senior, Dansa Densmore has been showing cattle since she was six years old. She grew up on a dairy farm in Weatherford, so showing beef and dairy cattle was a natural choice for Dansa. “At first I was scared to death, but now I love it,” she said. She shows all of her dairy cattle locally but does travel with her Beefmaster, named Remi to the big shows like the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. At the 2016 Parker County Youth Livestock Show held in June, Dansa received a great surprise when showing her three heifers Rhino, Reata, Remi. With Rhino and Reata, Dansa won titles for Grand Champion for the first time in her 13 years of showing. For Rhino she received Holstein Grand Champion and for Reata she won Jersey Grand Champion. Dansa also, received the Overall Grand Champion and Second Place Reserve Grand Champion Senior Showmanship award with Rhino. In her experience with showing the most difficult obstacle that she has faced is, “putting all of that time into one animal and then SPONSOREd BY not getting as far as you had hoped for is a big obstacle and disappointment,” she said. When asked what advice she had about showing, “Showing furthers a person’s responsibility and gives passion into what they are doing. It is also a good way to help you in college. It’s a hobby that will pay off after you graduate,” she said. For Dansa, what she likes most is being able to teach the younger children that are in 4-H and FFA on how to show their animals as well as developing showmanship. She loves how the kids that she teaches look to her for guidance because it reminds her of when she was younger, learning how to show. Dansa plans to study at Texas Tech in the fall, pursuing a degree in Agricultural Communications. She is most excited to be a part of the Texas Tech Livestock Judging Team. “Rather than be in a sorority I’d rather be participating in livestock judging,” she said.
