BY MEL W RHODES JULY 2016 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY D 24 uring his 66-year-long life Comanche warrior/chief Quanah Parker roamed the vast Southern Plains as a punisher of white incursion and served as both guide and bridge for his people when their inevitable defeat came in 1875. As biographer Bill Neeley put it: “Not only did Quanah pass from Stone Age warrior to a statesman in the age of the Industrial Revolution, but he never lost a battle to the white man and he also accepted the challenge and responsibility of leading the whole Comanche tribe on the difficult road toward their new existence.”
