our pastimes: ROUNDUP Great Men and Their Great Toys BY ABIGAIL GIEGER & MARSHA BROWN As the very old cliché goes, “The only difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys.” The author is unknown. Have you ever noticed that the harder people with great minds work, the harder they play? Is it true that great men with great minds seem to find great pastimes? PCT interviewed some of Parker County’s most respected leaders, asking them about their toys. Tim Buchanan Tim Buchanan is an avid golfer. The funny thing is that he has never had to buy any of his equipment. “I’ve either won or been given all my golf clubs,” he said. “I got the set I have now because on a trip to Florida my clubs got lost and the airline bought me this set. “As a young coach, you don’t have a whole lot of money when you’ve got two kids, so I’d go on the weekends,” he said. “I’d go to the Cliffs or White Bluff in Hillsboro at Lake Whitney. I’d go down there to win golf clubs because when I started teaching there I didn’t have money to buy my own. We sat through a two-hour seminar to get a set of my clubs.”  Buchanan was head coach at Aledo from 1993 to 2014, and in the fall of that same year he became the full-time athletic director and has been in that position for the last two years.
