and teammate Wesley Thorp of Ranger
College who finished 24th in team roping.
Emmons couldn’t be prouder of the four
men he took to the finals as well as the
former students he coached. Emmons
was William’s coach for three years and
said this was his third time to go to the
championship. The past two years Williams didn’t even receive a qualified time,
so he’s especially proud of his success this
year. “It’s quite an honor to even qualify.
We are in the biggest and toughest region
and only the top three get to go to the
finals,” Emmons said. Weatherford Col-
lege has a great legacy of rodeo successes,
having at least one student qualify for the
past 11 years straight. Emmons says that
Weatherford and Parker County’s support
of the program as well as the availability
of rodeos in the area brings great rodeo
prospects to his program.
“We have a good program and the
school supports the rodeo team very well.
When they look at programs in Odessa,
Snyder, Big Springs, Pampa and then
Weatherford and Stephenville, we are a
bigger draw,” he added. “It’s been a good
year for our former kids.”
