Parker County Today : What do you do in your day-to-day ? Judy White : Morris and I do anything that is needed to keep the company running smoothly . We are always available for questions and to help solve any problems that might occur .
PCT : How did you get in the business ? JW : My parents , Mary and V . Kemp Jr ., started the company in 1958 , and I grew up being involved in the day-to-day operations . I really loved it from day one from riding on the truck with my dad to helping my mother run statements . Morris started working for the company in 1962 and we married in 1965 , and we still enjoy what we do . We are family-owned with a tradition of meeting customers ’ needs and being part of the local community . We are proud to serve our friends and neighbors .
PCT : What would be your backup job ? JW : No backup . We love our company , our customers and employees .
PCT : What is your favorite thing about your job ? JW : Many things come to our minds ; after all , it ’ s been 60 years . We have had five generations that have actually worked in our company . Many great memories ! Our customers and their families have become our friends and many go back five generations that we have laughed with and cried with over the many years . Our employees are all fantastic people in their own right , and [ we ’ ve had ] many good employees who have retired . Our daughter-in-law , Jennifer , and two of our sons , Todd and Judd , work with us full-time . Rod , our oldest son , helps us anytime he is needed . They were raised in the company and very involved in day-to-day operations and are our go-to problem solvers with this world of high technology .
PCT : What have you learned in pursuing your field ? JW : As a family business we have learned to keep what is good and to quickly change what is wrong .
PCT : What advice can you give others who may want to follow in your footsteps ? JW : This company has never been an 8-to-5 job ; it was not for my parents and it is not for us — never has been never will be .
PCT : What is the best advice you can give to customers ? JW : Call us with your questions any time . We have 60 years of experience and are here to help them plan and get it right the first time .
PCT : What is the most interesting thing you have seen in your field ? JW : The many changes in uses of propane . The appliances are so advanced and the regulator systems have all improved and with this the safety and efficiency of propane has made it a very clean , safe and reliable fuel .
PCT : What is something that others don ’ t know about you or your job ? JW : We don ’ t consider our business a job . As one of our sons said , “ It ’ s our heritage .” Oh ! And our English bulldog ’ s name is Propane .
