our opinions: CURMUDGEON MUSINGS The Last BY MARK BROWN Word T.V. — Now More Stressful To Watch Than Real Life S o, there are a lot of negative things happening in our world today. The one thing we used to be able to count on was some kind of great entertainment — always. At the end of the day, you could at least read the newspapers, watch a little TV, and get your mind off the worries of the day — maybe even laugh a little. In my opinion, that is no longer the case. Now, instead of entertaining late night talk shows, we now have the Colbert/Kimmel/Meyers political rant programs. If you don’t have a headache before you watch, you will after you watch. I guess the Johnny Carson model of success, being funny, entertaining, and politically neutral is not good enough to work anymore. I remember growing up watching Carson. He was interesting, funny and regardless of who his guests happened to be — his interviewing techniques always brought out something interesting in every one of them. Watching, The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson was a positive experience. Those days are long gone. Television has now more stress to watch than real life. Our entertainment shows have now turned into preachy political commentary programs. No matter what you watch, late night talk shows, award programs, even the ultimate getaway of sports — they simply can’t help themselves. For instance, the upcoming Golden Globe Awards program will be 112 totally politically-based, by both the host and the participants. They all leave you feeling more stressed-out than your actual life does. So, what we need is a separate channel for real entertainment, and a channel for the political stuff. Let’s see who gets the best ratings. With that said, let’s talk about some fun things. There are many great steak restaurants in general, many of those in Texas. I wanted to mention some outside of Texas. Some cool things I have found in my travels around the country — Bern’s Steak House – Tampa, Florida, one of the best. If you happen to go there you must do their tour of the restaurant, which includes one of the larg- est wine cellars in the world, and also do the dessert bar on the second floor — really a unique experi- ence. Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse in Oklahoma City (Brick - town) — great food, service and a great address – 7 S Mickey Mantle Drive. St. Elmo Steak House - Indianapolis — it’s simply one of the best! Fabulous steaks, the best shrimp cocktail with their homemade cocktail sauce (hot). House of Prime Rib, San Francisco — it’s hard to find great prime rib these days, but this is fabulous! In closing, my new idea is to eat and travel. Beats television viewing, any day. So, in closing (again), I hope everyone stays safe on our Weatherford I-20 interstate ]H[\][H]\H]Y]8)^H][[ۈ[۸&]^[H][
