JANUARY 2017 PARKER COUNTY TODAY

Andy Browning
Andy Browning is a funeral director at White ’ s Funeral Homes and spends his free time editing and writing music .
PCT : How long have you been in Parker County ? AB : Two and a half years
PCT : What ’ s the coolest thing that you have ever done in your life ? AB : I think we can answer this question with a category simply titled “ Creepy Mortician Stuff .”
PCT : What ’ s your secret talent ? AB : I don ’ t know that I really have a secret talent . I am a Funeral Director & Embalmer , and am quite talented in restorative art . However , I would say that the things not many people know about me are that I spent a long tenure at the Stamps-Baxter School of Music , I toured and sang professionally with The Blackwoods , I am an accomplished choral director , I sit on the board of directors for the National Gospel Singing Convention , and today , my wife and I own Southern Legacy Music , a southern gospel music publishing company .
PCT : What is your definition of the best day ever ?
AB : I am a simple man . For me , the best day ever is spending the day with my wife and our three children . Last year , we took the boys to Disney World , and to see their faces light up from excitement , those are the best days ever .
PCT : What piece of advice has defined your life up till now ? AB : “ Success is not final , failure is not fatal : it is the courage to continue that counts .” - Winston Churchill
PCT : What is the best thing about your job ? AB : Without a doubt , the ability to help people , and to make a difference in their lives . In their darkest times , I can help them honor their loved ones and leave a positive lasting memory . I jokingly say “ If I walk into a room and the family is crying , that means I have done my job well .” Because nine times out of ten those are tears of joy for the memory they will be left with .
PCT : If you could have another career , what would it be and why ? AB : I am very blessed in this category . When I graduated , I started working as a disc jockey and music director at a Christian radio station . From there I went on to sing bass with The Blackwoods . I spent six years as a church music director , and launched Southern Legacy Music . Later in life , I started mortuary school to become a funeral director and embalmer . I believe that everyone has a calling in their life . Some of us are lucky enough to have two . For me , those are music and the funeral business , and I have been blessed enough to pursue and fulfill both of those callings .
PCT : What do you want to be remembered for ? AB : I would like to be remembered as a loving husband and father , for making a positive impact on the lives of others , and making a difference in the world . As Albert Pine once said , “ What we do for ourselves dies with us . What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal .”
