on and Tammy McBee are the creators and proprietors of Western Heritage Furniture and
RThe Design Center , with more than 30,000 square feet of home furnishings under roof and a huge variety of outdoor-living area furnishings surrounding their stores .
Ron and Tammy started out working for Jerry ’ s , he as sales manager and she as finance manager . They were young newlyweds with a big dream in 1998 .
“ We had a dream that we wanted a furniture store ,” Tammy said . “ It was more Ron ’ s dream than mine . He wanted a little western store .” She went to her boss , Jerry Durant and told him what she wanted to do . “ I told Jerry I wanted to open a furniture store and I had $ 10,000 in my 401K ,” Tammy said . He was extremely kind and encouraging to the aspiring entrepreneur . He told her that if for any reason the store didn ’ t work out for them that they were welcome to return to their jobs at Jerry ’ s .
They opened in July of 1998 on York Ave . in 1,500 square feet . Six months later , they ran out of room in their store . In 2000 , they built the 10,000 square-foot Western Heritage on Fort Worth Highway , all under one roof . Before long , that building was too small , and several expansions followed . Tammy always had an amazing talent for interior design . She handled the decorating for clients without charging additionally .
“ I think that ’ s what is at the root of our success ,” she said . “ We can put your house or office together in a day or two .”
While the McBees are famous for creating an eye-popping Western-style both interior and exterior , they aren ’ t limited to Western styles . They create breathtaking designs using Tuscan , Traditional and are now enjoying working with Modern .
“ I love working with new looks and new trends ,” Tammy said .
