PCT : Why did you decide to be a doctor ? LN : Despite the fact that the last doctor in my family lineage lived in the 1600s in France , I remember saying I wanted to be a doctor from the time that I was a small child . No one from my K-12 school had ever gone to medical school . There are nurses and teachers in my family , but no doctors . The high school counselor had no idea what to make of me . My only short-lived dilemma was , would I be a doctor for people or animals ? PCT : If you could have another career , what would it be and why ? LN : I really can ’ t imagine anything more challenging and rewarding than what I am doing right now , but if for some reason I had to choose something else , I would probably say education in another field . Helping people learn new things and seeing that light bulb fire in their mind is one of the most fun things ever . When I do something myself , I do it once . When I teach other people how to do something , it ’ s like multiplying the effect far beyond what I can achieve as an individual .
