Continued from page 91 my goof-ups, we ended up making a lunch date. Q: How did you get into your field?  A: My father went to Texas A&M and got a degree in Range Management. We were raised on a ranch and we grew up showing Angus and Hereford cattle in stock shows around the state, so it was a natural choice for me to become a veterinarian. being a vet to any person who wants a rewarding and flexible career, but I would warn people that it is not all fun and games when dealing with sick or injured pets. There are very intense moments, there can be a lot of stress during emergencies, and treating a pet can be like treating someone’s child.  You have to love people AND animals in order to do a good job because they come handin-hand. Q: What do you do to relax? A: Now days, I like to sit with my wife, Cheryl, on the porch at night and talk about our day. I also like to Q: Would you recommend your career for other people? Why? A: I would certainly recommend take her out to dinner when we can get out of the house. Q: If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?  A: The Great Wall of China. He was my next-door neighbor JANUARY 2016 Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?  A: Our two sons who were born 20 months apart. Trying to stay one or two steps ahead of them when they were teenagers. My oldest son served in the Marine Corps Reserves, got his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees, and went on to co-found a successful company with his wife. Their son just graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering last month. My youngest son joined the Air Force out of high school and was trained at the Fire Academy where he was a firefighter and confined space rescuer. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his rescue work in the Oklahoma City bombing. He retired with 25 years of service with the Air Force Reserves. He went on to have a successful career in law enforcement as a deputy, criminal investigator, as well as many other specialties in law enforcement. 97
