I loved teaching writing and literary
analysis.
Q: Would you recommend your
career for other people? Why?
A: There are more Ph.D.’s than jobs
available for them, but I do love
my career. I love being able to help
students express themselves well and
to think critically about the world.
Q: What do you do to relax?
A: I watch my favorite TV shows,
read, and play with my dog, Winnie.
Q: If you could visit any place in the
world, where would you go?
A: I’ve traveled extensively in Europe,
especially with students, so I’m ready
to try a new continent. I’d love to
go to South America next: Brazil or
Argentina.
Q: If you could go back in history,
who is the one person you would like
to meet?
A: Jane Addams, one of the writers/
reformers I wrote about in my dissertation. She was a civic leader from the
1890s to the 1930s, an era when very
few women had public roles, and she
won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Q: Who in your life has influenced
you the most? How?
A: Other than my parents, I’d have
to say my husband. When you get to
know another person that well, they
can’t help but influence you.
