masters from Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary.
Q: When you were a child, what did
you want to be when you grew up?
A: A game warden.
Q: How did you get into your field?
A: Being a kid in school I would
daydream and I would come up with
all these incredible stories. I took a
creative writing course and at the
end of the course we had to read
something we had written. Everyone
else had written these tearjerkers. I
thought, “I’m going to flunk this.” My
story began with, “The world is being
taken over by pigeons and squirrels
...” My professor stopped me in the
hall and told me how much he liked
my story.
Q: Would you recommend your
career for other people? Why?
A: Sure. I think as long as they are
creative and enjoy writing, they need
to share their writing with the world.
Q: What do you do to relax?
A: On Thursday nights I stay up late
and watch survival shows. Sometimes
I catch up on my writing.
Q: If you could visit any place in the
world, where would you go?
A: Jackson Hole, WY.
Q: What period in history would you
most like to travel to?
A: 1840s American West. I’d be a
mountain man.
Q: If someone asked you for your
best advice, what would you say?
A: From the Gospel: Love God with
your whole heart and love your
neighbor as yourself.
Q: What’s your favorite hobby?
A: I love searching for Native
American artifacts.
Q. What is the one thing that makes
you
happy?
A: I love spending time with my wife
and kids.
Q: What makes you really sad?
A: Seeing children suffer, in any way.
Q: What scares you?
A: I see young people that seem to
find it cool to be anti-American. My
grandfather used to tell me stories of
how he fought for this country when
he was young and now young people
have no inclination to stand up for
what is right.
Q: Who in your life has influenced
you the most? How?
A: My parents have each influenced
me in positive ways.
Q: What would you most like to be
remembered for?
A: For being a doer, for being bold
enough to laugh at a challenge, bold
enough to try things that most people
would never dream about.
