Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
A: My family. By far having a loving family that
cares for each other and has the support is second
to none. A loving family to come home to. A second
is when I was on the United Way board, we raised
over $200,000 for their campaign. Working with
that group of people bring very good memories.
Watching the dollars go from being raised and then
into the homes where people need it.
Q: How did you get into public service?
A: I think when my dad was a mayor. When I started
dating Kathy I had a relative who was the mayor of
Fort Worth. It was never my intent to get into politics. Water started it all. They were rationing water
and I thought they needed a long-range plan. I ran
for council and was on it for six years. After that
time, I realized it was beyond water at that point.
What I saw was a bigger picture and saw we needed
a lot more. I knew I could respect the legacy of leadership that was left and I felt confident it was something I wanted to do. I had the support of my wife
and family and we were all on board. That was 10
years ago. I’m looking forward to the next chapter
and to see where it takes us.
Q: Would you recommend city politics for other
people? Why?
A: Yeah, I would. Complacency is always the enemy.
I think the challenge is getting people involved. I
would absolutely recommend this to anybody who
wants to serve without an agenda. It’s important to
get people engaged and involved in their community. Thirty percent of Hudson Oaks citizens vote
versus the rest of the county’s 5 percent. In Hudson
Oaks we’ve been very successful in getting people
engaged. It’s the biggest goal to get people engaged
and involved.
