James Michael Scott Perz
Co-Owner and Operator
A Step Back’n Time Antiques,
Auctions & Estate Sales
Services and Licensed
Auctioneer
Q: What kind of music are you into?
A: Classic Rock. I grew up in the ’80s
in Ohio. I was fortunate enough to be
able to attend just about every Classic
Rock band that came through Ohio.
My all-time favorite is AC/DC.
Q: What’s the most daring thing
you’ve ever done?
A: Skiing the “The Double
Black Diamond Slopes” in Vail,
Colorado. Also, jumping out of a
helicopter while in the United States
Coast Guard into Lake Michigan.
Q: What accomplishment are you
most proud of? A: I am proud of
starting A Step Back’n Time Antiques
and sustaining our local business
for 8+ years. Being able to expand
into a thriving auction & estate sales
company in historic downtown
Weatherford.
Q: How did you get into your field?
A: Attending antique furniture
auctions as a buyer I became hooked
on the hype of the auctioneer and
his enthusiasm. This intrigued me to
want to be an auctioneer. I attended
The Texas Auction Academy in
Dallas, Texas, operated by Mike
Jones, my mentor.
Q: What do you do to chill?
A: Chilling for me is jumping on
the John Deere tractor and driving
through the fields setting up the sale.
Q: If you could visit any place in the
world, where would you go?
A: I would actually like to go to
Antwerp, Belgium, and visit the
large castles where exporters get the
furniture that I purchase for my showroom.
Q: What scares you?
A: Having a military background,
our present government leaders
are setting us up for disaster. We
hear every day about impeachment. Somebody needs to get off
their a** and do something about
it. Texas is a strong state and I hope
one day we secede to be our own
nation. In 2016 the United States will
choose their next leader. Let’s hope
and pray our next president honors
the Oath of Office.
Q: Who in your life has influenced
you the most? How?
A: My dad, Raymond Walter
Perz. My father taught me a great
work ethic and has helped in all
aspects of our business plans. He
is our financial advisor and he also
helps with all of our auction procedures. He has not only been a great
father to me, but seeing him interact
with my sons and grandson makes
our relationship even stronger. I love
you Dad/Poppie!

Q: What is your favorite book?
A: The Bible.
Q: What kind of music is your favorite?
A: Gospel Music.
Q: What’s the most daring thing
you’ve ever done?
A: When I was 10 or 11, I drove a
herd of cattle across a flooding river
and held onto one of the cow’s tails
to let her pull me across. I made
my little brother hold onto a cow
upstream so if he lost hold I could
catch him as he floated by.

Q: What accomplishment are you
most proud of?
A: Being married to the same man
for 75 years and raising our family of
nine daughters.
Q: Are you married? How did you
meet your spouse?
A: Yes. At a church singing night.
Q: When you were a child, what did
you want to be when you grew up?
A: A mother. That’s all I ever wanted
to do. I had my family planned – two
boys and two girls, but God had a
different plan.
Q: What do you do to chill?
A: I crochet. I make baby hats to
donate to hospitals for newborns.
Q: If someone asked you to give
them your best piece of advice, what
would you say?
A: Depend on God for everything.
Q: Who in your life has influenced
you the most? How?
A: My parents. They set the example
and depended on God to know what
to do.
Q: What would you most like to be
remembered for?
A: Following in my parents’ guidance
and raising my family the way they
raised theirs.
