PCT : What is your favorite novel ? BF : “ Piercing the Darkness ,” by Frank Peretti . For me , it depicts how real the spiritual battle is over us individually , our families , and our communities .
PCT : What do you do to decompress ? BF : Run the Weatherford mountain bike trial ( Quanah Hill ) with my best
PCT : If you could have lunch with anyone , either living or dead from history , who would it be ? BF : The person who nominated me for this so I could ask them “ Why ?”
PCT : If you had to do another job other than what you ’ re doing , what would you do ? BF : I have had different careers in my life . This IS the OTHER job I would do – keeping families safe from every storm .
PCT : What is your impact to Parker County ? BF : Our Storm Warriors team has helped educate families how to stay safe from violent storms through the Parker County Storm Warriors Safety Rally . We have helped warn Parker County when storms were approaching . We have also taken much-needed relief donated by families from Parker County to help aid families whose lives were impacted from tornadoes and hurricanes . My wife and I also coach and encourage families in Parker County to live with vision and intentionality .
PCT : How did you get into your occupation ? BF : I began chasing storms in college because the sheer power mesmerized me ; but after witnessing the 1999 Moore , Oklahoma tornado , my perspective changed . From that day , our mission became to first warn communities of severe weather coming into their area , assist them if a disaster happens , and then help these families become restored through relief efforts . This is where Storm Warriors came from – W . A . R . We are also beginning to manufacture storm shelters capable of withstanding an EF-5 tornado to help keep more families safe . friend and wife , Danielle , and our search and rescue dog , Rayne .
PCT : What is something people don ’ t know about you ? BF : While I run into dangerous storm situations to help people in their greatest time of need , I will run and scream like a little girl at the sight of a spider . I have also authored two books with my wife , The Power of Family Vision and Updraft – A Warrior ’ s Guide to Navigating the Storms of Life .
PCT : What would you most like to be remembered for ? BF : First , that I was an intentional husband , father , and friend . A very close second is that I strived to make our belief that , “ No One Should Ever Die From A Tornado ” into a reality .
PCT : What is your definition of the best day ever ? BF : When my whole family is together and seeing their joy . “ How blessed is a man who knows his children are walking in the truth .” — 3 John 1:4
PCT : What ’ s the best piece of advice you would give ? BF : There is always hope . When God restores a family from any of life ’ s storms ; He always intends for them to be better than they were before .
PCT : What is the most interesting thing you have ever done in your life ? BF : On the first anniversary of the 9-11 attack , I had the privilege of visiting Ladder 12 who lost most of their firefighters and listen to them recount the worst day of their lives . It was heart-wrenching and still impacts
me today .
