PCT : What do you do in your day to day routine ? CH : On Mondays and Wednesdays I operate . Tuesdays I have clinic in Weatherford . On Thursday I have clinic in Fort Worth , and Friday I have clinic in Burleson .
PCT : How did you get into this business ? CH : I found I really liked my spine surgery rotation in residency for orthopedic surgery and had a great mentor in my training program . I moved to Texas to do a fellowship year ( extra year of training for only spine surgery ) in Plano at the Texas Back Institute and loved Texas . I joined the DFW Center for Spinal Disorders due to liking this side of the Metroplex better .
PCT : What is your back-up job if
you weren ’ t in this business ? CH : I never really thought about doing anything else , but I used to fly quite a bit , so perhaps a pilot .
PCT : What is your favorite thing about your job ? CH : Interacting with people on a daily basis , and no two days are ever identical . There is always something new . Technology continues to evolve and change my limitations and techniques , so there is always something new to learn and apply to help people with their spine issues .
PCT : What have you learned in pursuing your field ? CH : How to help patients improve their lives through spine surgery and conservative methods to help the body heal itself .
PCT : What advice can you give others who may want to follow in your footsteps ? CH : Figure out what you want your life to be . Define how to get there and just keep working . Hard work and dedication don ’ t happen overnight . Also , enjoy the journey getting to where you want to be .
PCT : What is the best piece of advice you can give to patients ? CH : Keep working hard and together we will get you better .
PCT : What is the most interesting thing you have seen in your field ? CH : People who had lost hope of having an improvement in their pain getting better after helping them with either conservative means or surgery . Also , technology continues to evolve and the things we can do today are vastly different and more effective than other methods used in the past .
