The Drill of Romance — Dr . Carly Klassen Goes From Cuspids To Cupid

Derek Dumas and Dr . Carly Klassen met through mutual friends and they ’ re not quite sure exactly when they first met . “ We were aware of each other for quite a while ,” Carly said . “ I can ’ t really put my finger on it , but we just met . We ’ ve been dating since May of 2015 . He asked me out . We went to Mellow Mushroom in Fort Worth , by TCU . It was very casual . We had lunch on a Sunday afternoon .”
Carly ’ s dental practice is in Weatherford ; Derek is Assistant District Attorney with the Johnson County District Attorney ’ s Office .
After their first date they began spending more and more time together . By the winter they had gone from that casual lunch together to the realm of serious relationship . It was the holidays Christmas of 2015 that convinced Carly that Derek was “ The One .”
“ We spent Christmas separately ,” recalls Carly . “ My family is in the ( Rio Grande ) Valley , McAllen , Texas , so it ’ s pretty far away .” Seems that absence definitely made the heart grow fonder . By New Year ’ s , “… I knew I wanted to spend every Christmas with him .”
Derek proposed the next summer .
“ He told me were going to lunch ,” Carly said . “ It was the middle of summer , July , and it was like 105 °. He wouldn ’ t tell me exactly where we were going for lunch . We walked through the Fort Worth Water Gardens , which we ’ d done before . But , then he started acting really weird . He ’ d hidden some flowers there and his sister was hiding in the shrubbery and she jumped out and started taking pictures . He got down on one knee and proposed .”
Did she say “ yes ” immediately or did she let him guess for a few minutes ?
“ I said ‘ yes ’ immediately ,” Carly said . “ Well , that ’ s because I wanted to get into air conditioning . It was 105 °.”
Their big day is set for Feb . 18 th at the Brooks of Weatherford .
“ Who knows what the weather will be like ,” Carly said . “ I ’ d love it if it snowed lightly . We ’ ll have a brief ceremony and then a really fun reception .”
They ’ re honeymooning in British Columbia , where they plan to do a lot of downhill skiing .
