PCT : What ’ s the coolest thing that you have ever done in your life ? SD : Cutting the umbilical cord on my now 4-year-old granddaughter , Stevie .
PCT : What ’ s your secret talent ? SD : I am a fairly decent cook .
PCT : What is your definition of the best day ever ? SD : A day in the deer blind with my grandsons Brennen and Kyran . We have had some great conversations and shared a lot of dreams .
PCT : What piece of advice has defined your life up till now ? SD : Never argue with a fool , passersby won ’ t know which one is the fool .
PCT : What is the best thing about your job ? SD : This is a job that just fits me . I like people . I like problem solving and being on a team with people who appreciate what we have . The best part might be how something very simple that you can do today can make someone else happy .
PCT : If you could have another career , what would it be and why ? SD : Farm and Ranch . I love the solitude on a tractor , it ’ s amazing to witness the birth of a calf , see the rewards of a planted crop . It ’ s hard work , but I cannot think of anything closer to nature and God . cases , I preside over mental competency cases , I set bond at the jail , I testify before committees in Austin before federal agencies on transportation issues . And as former chairman of the Regional Transportation Council .
PCT : What ’ s your secret talent ? MR : I don ’ t know , unless it would be theater . Many people don ’ t realize that I perform in theater . I always wanted to go somewhere where nobody knew me to audition . In 2005 , McKinney was doing Cat On A Hot Tin Roof . It was so much fun . It was a unique experience cast as “ Big Daddy .”
PCT : What is your definition of the best day ever ? MR : It would be a good top-down cruising day with a friend enjoying Americana .
1987 to 1994 and I said , “ I ’ ve had enough .” I went to the Chamber of Commerce . Some people approached me to run for County Judge . I ’ m in my fifth term . The community has been great to me and I ’ ve been able to focus on the job at hand and not the personal politics stuff .
PCT : What would you do if you weren ’ t doing this job ? MR : I can ’ t think of anything but being county judge .
PCT : What would you like to be remembered for ? MR : I think when the day ’ s done you want people to realize that you made the right decisions because your heart is in the right place . My family and I have been treated wonderfully here .
PCT : What do you do to kick back ? MR : My stress reliever is my convertible .
