a wardrobe of pink clothes and
accessories. One eye catching pair
of cowgirl boots bore the name
of Royal Blue Boon on one and
Peptoboonsmal on the other. The
quiet, demure Elaine was suddenly
wearing lots of pink and turning
heads.
As for Royal Blue Boon, “We
embryo transferred her a lot during
that time,” Elaine said. “She only had
two babies herself—Red White And
Boon and Betcha Blue Boon.”
Royal Blue Boon earned $382,000
in five seasons.
Elaine and Royal Blue Boon
forged such a strong bond, probably
because they shared a love for
babies.
“For me, the foaling out process
was the best part of the business,”
Elaine said. “It was very motherly.
The anticipation would go out

“She was a wonderful mother.
She was kind and gentle and loved
being a mom,” Elaine said. “We kept
all the broodmares in one pasture. In
the spring when the mares had their
foals, we would watch as she would
circle the babies and she would steal
a baby from its mother. She was
funny.”
Royal Blue Boon’s breeding
career came to an end when she
was 26. She deserved a comfortable
retirement and Elaine made sure she
had one.
“She was a big part of this family,”
Elaine said.
The Hall grandchildren loved to
spend time with Royal Blue Boon.
Other memories included the day
Kelly Graham delivered a bronze
likeness of the great mare with a foal,
that Elaine had commissioned to
grace the area in front of her barn.
“He said, ‘Go get the mare,’”
Elaine said. “‘Let’s see what she
thinks of it.’ Royal Blue Boon
definitely showed interest in it.”
With Royal Blue Boon now
gone, members of the cutting horse
industry look back at the career of
the great mare and recall what made
her extraordinary.
“The relationship she and Elaine
