The storyteller, identified only as

comedy of Jefferson’s storied past.

40-minute trip through the woods,

or, as he is known here, “The Boggy
Creek Monster,” the subject of a
movie shot in the area.
Following a trek back to our
camp, we take our glass of wine from
a spot overlooking the lake, watch
the fireflies dance through the night
and try to solve the mystery of poor
Bessie’s untimely demise.
The next morning, we get up
early, enjoy a hearty, home-cooked
breakfast and watch the sun rise
over the gnarly cypress trees before
pointing west. We took time to visit
the historic Oakwood Cemetery to
see the graves of “Diamond Bessie”
Moore; Confederate Capt. Joseph
Pratt, commander of the 10 th Texas
Field Artillery; and outlaws Jesse
Robinson and Bill Rose, who were
