Karen Kessler – Animal Control “It’s a passion for me,” Animal Control Officer Karen Kessler said of her job of 14 years. “I was blessed to get the job that I love.” That passion for animals shines through her love of her three dogs, cat, horse, two chickens and 10 cows. While Kessler clearly cares for animals, she has a deep appreciation for people as well. “I’m thankful for the sheriff and the chief because they’ve given me the opportunity to grow,” she said, adding, “I have a great crew that I work with and great bosses.” She also wanted to thank her family which “has supported me through 14 years of interruption … and that’s daily!” Mike Jenkins – AUGUST 2015 PA R K E R C O U N T Y T O D AY Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy Dreams change, sometimes making an about-face. For Parker County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Jenkins, his dream has simply evolved. At the age of 24, Jenkins began work under Sheriff Larry Fowler, a man he looks up to in both career and character. Jenkins’ original dream was to become a U.S. Marshal, but after he and his wife moved to Weatherford to be closer to family, they fell in love. “After getting here and kind of moving into the area and seeing what’s going on, and how it’s growing, my wife and I actually like it a lot,” Jenkins said. “I’m not sure that I want this to be a stepping stone anymore. I may just want to be here for the long haul.” Now 26, Jenkins said beyond continuing his career here, he plans to further his understanding of law enforcement by pursuing his master’s degree. 16
