So what does the future hold?
As Rhodes learns to live as a
sober adult, he is making plans to
give back to the community that has
embraced him throughout the years.
First, though, he had to learn how to
love himself.
“I am better than I ever have
been, through the grace of God and
growing in His will and His plan. It is
our responsibility to use the gifts that
God has given us. My Aunt Judith
said, ‘Nephew, the problem is not the
problem; your attitude is the prob-
lem.’ That punched me in the mouth.
I used to think that I was nothing
and then realized that God made me
special,” he said.
Rhodes is also wanting to test his
healthy and fit body and volunteer
with the Texas Star with search and
rescue. He feels that it’s his duty after
all that God has brought him through,
to give back his time to helping other
people.
“At the end of the day, I want to
serve my community at a local level,
a state level and maybe a nationwide
level, at any capacity,” he said.
