PCT : What is the most interesting thing you have ever done in your life ? JB : I taught English as a second language for three years to children . It was quite challenging to teach someone to speak , read and write in English when we didn ’ t have a common language , but it was very rewarding to see the children be successful in their second language and see them smile at their accomplishments .
Ray Michou
Ray is a retired teacher / coach . He is currently in sales at Bullard Vet Supply and operates , Michou Chester Whites , a family-owned showpig operation .
PCT : How did you get into your occupation ? RM : I became a teacher / coach because I really enjoyed competitive sports and being around kids . After retiring from teaching , I became involved at Bullard ’ s because of my
interest in agriculture and because of my ties to the showpig industry . I really enjoy the aspect of working with people and helping them . Both teaching / coaching and my current work at Bullard ’ s and in our showpig operation , it is always about serving people .
PCT : What is your favorite novel ? RM : I don ’ t read as much as most retired English teachers that I know . I prefer to be active outside when I have down time . However , I would say that I loved all of John Grisham ’ s novels . My favorites include A Time to Kill , The Client , and The Pelican
Brief .
PCT : What do you do to decompress ? RM : I enjoy working around my farm , and sometimes just going for a peaceful walk on our place where my family has lived for generations .
PCT : What is something people don ’ t know about you ? RM : Some of my coaching friends are surprised that I raise showpigs . Some of my showpig buddies are equally surprised when they find that I once taught English and coached . As I used to tell some of my students , I am just a “ Shakespeare-teaching , basketball-coaching , pig farmer .”
PCT : If you could have lunch with anyone , living or dead , in history , who would it be ? RM : Ronald Reagan . I think he was one of our most important presidents to ever serve . He really understood that America is a special place . That being an American is a special privilege . Most importantly , he came along at a time when we really needed to understand that again .
