PARKER COUNTY AG
WINNER – SIX-YEAR-OLD
COMPETES WITH SUPERHERO STEERS
BRAYDEN STEINBERG
BY JOSH HAYES
B
rayden Steinberg is no stranger to winning. At the age of 6 he
has won the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Pre-Junior
Grand Champion Miniature Hereford Market Steer not once, but
twice.
Brayden’s win at Houston this year was with Spiderman,
who is just one of his steers named after a superhero, including
Batman, Superman and Flash.
A kindergartner at Austin Elementary and member of the
Spring Creek 4-H, he has shown at 15 events the past two
years with wins at the Miniature Hereford Junior Nationals in
Chickasaw, Nebraska, and the Texas State Fair.
The unique thing about Brayden is he takes the steer out in to
the show ring on his own, versus having a parent assist him.
“His dad told him if you are going to do this, you have to go
at it on your own,” said Brayden’s mom Amber Steinberg. “Most
have a parent out there to help the kids; he handles it all on his
own.”
When asked, the young Steinberg did have some advice for
those who may want to show animals. “Get ready to work, a
lot,” the always-smiling young man said. “The hardest part of
showing is making them keep their heads up in the show ring.”
Brayden really enjoys the events coming up to the show.
“My favorite part is getting them ready for the show,” he said.
Brayden aspires to be a superhero himself, as either a
fireman or a police officer.
