Safeguarding Park Hill Primary has a comprehensive Safeguarding Policy which can be seen on request at the school office and on the school website. The purpose of the Safeguarding Policy The school recognises that it has an explicit duty to safeguard and protect children from abuse as defined in the Children Act 2004 and Section 175 of the Education Act 2002. The overall intention and purpose behind the school’s safeguarding policy is underpinned by the fundamental principle of the Children Act 1989: How do we safeguard our children: As explained briefly in page 8 all visitors are required to report to Reception area and provide identification if intending to enter school. No visitor will be allowed to work with children if they cannot provide an enhanced DBS disclosure. Every member of staff employed at Park Hill Primary are fully enhanced DBS checked and this is updated every 3 years. A Single Central record is kept of everybody in school and outside school who regularly work with children and this is inspected during a visit from OFSTED. School Commitment      Create and maintain an environment in which children feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to. Ensure all children have effective means of communication with adults in the school. Promote class or group discussions about thoughts and feelings in an atmosphere of trust, acceptance and tolerance. Include in the curriculum activities and opportunities for PSHE/Citizenship which equip children with the skills they need to stay safe from abuse. Children are encouraged to post concerns in a worry box regularly looked at by the Learning Mentor. School premises features a high secure boundary fence around the school grounds and provides a safe environment for children. All school gates are kept locked during the school day with access only via the main gate on the driveway. School doors are kept locked during lesson time and only opened for break-times and lunchtimes. ~ 17 ~
