This is the third consecutive year that Central Office employees have volunteered at the shelter. Our volunteers cut back overgrown bushes, trimmed trees, wacked weeds and raked leaves and mulch for three hours, leaving a well-manicured lawn. CCS Central Office employees have been participating in the United Way Season of Caring since 2010. Odell Elementary Teacher Named First Hometown Hero Marla Guerity, a second grade teacher at W.R. Odell Elementary School, has been selected as the first Hometown Hero for Cabarrus County Schools. Hometown Hero is a teacher recognition program sponsored by Charles G. Monnett III & Associates (Monnett &Associates) to help teachers offset some of the hundreds of dollars they spend of their own money each year in classroom supplies. Each month, the law firm will honor the top vote-getter at schools throughout the Charlotte-metro region with a $250 Visa gift card to purchase supplies for the classroom and Domino’s will cater a pizza party for the winning teacher’s classroom. Bob Dill, marketing director for Monnett & Associates, and Taylor Patterson, field marketing leader for Domino’s, presented Mrs. Guerity with her award on Sept. 5th. Her students were excited hear that they would be receiving a pizza party in the coming weeks! To nominate a deserving CCS teacher, visit www.carolinalaw. com and select the “Vote” button. Nominations are now open. Voting continues throughout each month, closing at the end of each month, with the presentation ceremony taking place at the winning teacher’s school during the first week of the following month.
