Message from Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody Extraordinary Education Every day (E3) THIS IS OUR YEAR! Join Us on Our Journey to the Extraordinary: Seven Ways You Can Help When I arrived in October of last year, the first question I was asked by many people was, “What can I do to help?” After being here almost a year, I have a few suggestions. Literacy is our focus! Encourage every child to read 15 minutes 1 per day. Everyone can help by simply talking with children about reading. Fifteen minutes a day will increase their vocabulary tremendously. Better yet...take the time to read with a child fifteen minutes a day! 2 Provide books, newspapers, and magazines in lobbies and waiting rooms. If you need suggestions, we will be happy to assist. 3 100 Homework Centers - Challenge to the community! Provide WiFi for students at businesses, churches, and public areas. Students need access to the Internet, especially in rural areas. Provide homework centers and after school programs. Our students need adults that are genuinely interested in their work and willing to engage in a conversation about their projects. Become a “Hot Spot” host and provide WiFi, supervision and snacks for our students after school! http://www.rowanhotspot.com. 4 Donate to our Rowan-Salisbury Education Foundation. Over the next couple of months, I hope to begin an education foundation with a mission of providing professional development for our staff. We need opportunities to hear experts share best practices. 5 Offer encouragement. Positive notes, kind words, and conversations about how we can work together will make a tremendous impact! Our work is challenging, so help us with win-win solutions. 6 Help us keep our facilities clean and attractive. We need more collaborative spaces for students. If you have an interest or talent in gardening, carpentry, or decorating, we need your help. Help us keep our students safe. Be aware and cautious around 7 school buses. Show your identification when on school grounds. Totally cool, y fun! totall YOUTH LOCK-IN at Woodleaf Lanes! Kids FREE shopping! Chaperones, pizza, drinks, prizes and FUN!!!
