Nancy Barkemeyer Is Named Rowan-Salisbury
School System’s Principal Of The Year
Congratulations to West Rowan Middle School Principal
Nancy Barkemeyer, the 2014-2015 Rowan-Salisbury
Schools “Principal of the Year.” The announcement
was made by Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody at the
district’s first Pep Rally held at the North Rowan
High School football stadium. Mrs. Barkemeyer was
presented with a $500 gift certificate for a new
wardrobe donated from Belk of Salisbury. All WRMS
staff members, along with Barkemeyer, were called to
the football field to each receive a 6-pack of Cheerwine
donated from Cheerwine. The Principal of the Year is
a program sponsored by the NC Department of Public
Instruction and Wells Fargo Bank. Barkemeyer will now
move forward to compete with other award recipients for the title
of Northwest Regional Principal of the Year. Once all NC regional
principals of the year have been selected, one will be named the
2015 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.

Bostian Elementary Teacher Is NC Finalist For The 2014 Presidential Award For Excellence
Wendy DiStefano has been selected as a NC finalist for the 2014 Presidential
Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) Program.
Wendy was one of three teachers selected to represent North Carolina’s best for
the national competition. Wendy is now a candidate for the Presidential Award.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science
Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation’s highest honors for teachers of
mathematics and science (including computer science). Awardees serve as
models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in
the improvement of mathematics and science education.
Since 1983, more than 4,300 teachers have been recognized for their
contributions in the classroom and to their profession. If you know great
