The 2013-14 Union County Public Schools
Principal of the Year is Brad Breedlove, principal at
Monroe High School, while the Assistant Principal of
the Year is Kathleen Richert from Weddington Middle
School.
The announcement was made at Thursday’s
(Oct. 17, 2013) Principal of the Year Luncheon held
at the Professional Development Center on Brewer

Breedlove was chosen from six finalists, all
nominated by their peers. The other finalists were
Sam Basden (Porter Ridge High School), Dr. Mike
Henderson (Wingate Elementary School) Dr. Kevin
Plue (Forest Hills High School), Sherry Richardson
(Rocky River Elementary), and Blaire Traywick
(Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts
(BHESA).
After being chosen, Breedlove thanked his
mentors, including the former Monroe High School
principal with whom he worked, now Deputy
Superintendent Dr. Mike Webb. “He left big shoes to
fill,” Breedlove said. “Receiving this award is a direct
result of the support and the mentorship that we get
every day. I know I can always pick up the phone
and call Central Services and get that support.”
Breedlove said he accepted the award on
behalf of Monroe High School, the students and the
teachers at his school who support children. “This
is much more than just Brad Breedlove, and I know
that. And to be representative of this great crowd
