UCPS awarded $27 million Teacher and School Leader Incentive Grant
Union County Public Schools (UCPS) recently received a three-year
$27 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher and
School Leader (TSL) Incentive Program. The grant will provide funding
to support, train and reward excellent teachers and school leaders.
“This is a historic event for Union County Public Schools,” said UCPS
Superintendent Dr. Andrew Houlihan. “This funding will help to increase
student academic achievement and support teachers and students in
our high-needs schools.”
UCPS is one of only 14 school districts in the country, and the only
district in the state, to receive the TSL grant. Through a program called
Educator Performance Incentive and Career Pathways, 13 high-priority
UCPS schools will use the funding to implement a performance-based
compensation system that promotes more effective teaching and school
leadership.
During the next three years, the TSL grant will provide funding for
recruitment trips to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, school
programs to promote positive behavior, a data platform and a progress
monitoring system for students.
Each school will also receive funding for two master teachers, and
