Shiloh teacher named EC Teacher of Excellence
Dee Hasty , an exceptional children ’ s teacher at Shiloh Elementary , has been named a 2016 Exceptional Children ’ s Teacher of Excellence .
She was informed by EC Director Janie Webb during a staff meeting at her school Wednesday , Sept . 21st .
“ I never expected it ,” Hasty said . “ This award is a culmination of a lot of people mentoring me .”
Shiloh Principal Scott Spencer nominated Hasty . His nomination letter said Hasty is known for her hard work , dedication to her students and her willingness to support her colleagues .
“ The kids love going to her ,” Spencer said . “ She ’ s just a very calming presence . She has great rapport with the parents . She ’ s a huge part of this school .”
Hasty , a 20-year-veteran educator , is credited with having a wealth of knowledge in behavioral and academic interventions . She serves on the school-based intervention team , which provides strategies that support teachers . She also serves as a mentor to
new EC teachers .
As for her strategies for success , Hasty said , “ You have to be flexible and learn as you go . Kids change , things change , and you have to change with them and grow .”
EC office manager Plushette Price and Hasty ’ s husband , Ron Hasty , were part of the surprise team , armed with flowers that they presented Hasty when her award was announced .
Hasty will be recognized at the annual EC conference in November .
