October ‘Hometown Hero’ named at Shiloh Elementary The look on Terri Brown’s face was priceless when her principal and 9 of her colleagues made an unexpected visit to her classroom on Oct.16. Brown, a second-grade teacher at Shiloh Elementary, was named the October Hometown Hero for Union County Public Schools. During a surprise visit, she was awarded a certificate and a $250 check for classroom supplies from Charles G. Monett III and Associates. “For the first time in my life I am speechless,” Brown said. “Teaching is a challenging job, but it’s rewarding as well.” Following the presentation, Brown tried to thank her colleagues for their support, but had trouble because she was trying to hold back tears. “I am overwhelmed. I feel like I am dreaming,” she said. Brown has been an educator for 25 years and has taught at Shiloh Elementary for five years. “She’s always been the nicest teacher to us,” said second-grader Logan Bender. “She always sticks up for us and she helps us with math vocabulary.” Each month the law firm honors teachers in Mecklenburg, Lincoln, Catawba, Iredell, Cabarrus and Union counties for their service in public education.
