Unionville Elementary teacher is 2016-17 UCPS Teacher of the Year At the end of the day, successful teachers have two things going for them: the respect of their students and the fact that their students know they care. “If they don’t think you care, you’ve lost them already,” said Jodi Robinson, a third-grade teacher at Unionville Elementary. “Having that relationship with them allows you to do so much more; whether it’s teaching or discipline or having conversations with them. If you have that relationship with them, they understand you, they respect you and they listen to you.” Robinson was chosen as the 2016-17 UCPS Teacher of the Year during Thursday’s (April 21, 2016) Teacher of the Year Banquet. She said it was an honor to get to the top 10. “I never thought I would get that far,” she said. “It’s such an honor to be chosen among such talented teachers.” This nine-year veteran teacher has been teaching at Unionville for the past seven years. She said she is most looking forward to getting into other classrooms and observing other teachers. “I want to see what they’re doing in their classrooms,” she said. “I want to see what’s happening across the county.” One of the prizes Jodi won for being chosen Unionville Elementary Teacher of the Year was a one year lease of a Jodi Robinson, a third-grade teacher at Unionville principal Dr. Sharyn G. car, courtesy of Union County KIA. VonCannon, said Robinson is known for investing her time and energy not only into each child in her classroom, but giving of herself to her colleagues and her school, as well. “An exemplary teacher indicates to students that she sincerely cares about their learning,” VonCannon said. “Ms. Robinson gives true meaning to the phrase, ‘Whatever it takes.’ She is committed to doing what ever it takes to ensure the success of all.
