Unionville Elementary teacher is 2016-17 UCPS Teacher of the Year
At the end of the day, successful teachers have two things going for
them: the respect of their students and the fact that their students know
they care.
“If they don’t think you care, you’ve lost them already,” said Jodi
Robinson, a third-grade teacher at Unionville Elementary. “Having that
relationship with them allows you to do so much more; whether it’s
teaching or discipline or having conversations with them. If you have
that relationship with them, they understand you, they respect you and
they listen to you.”
Robinson was chosen as the 2016-17 UCPS Teacher of the Year
during Thursday’s (April 21, 2016) Teacher of the Year Banquet. She
said it was an honor to get to the top 10. “I never thought I would get
that far,” she said. “It’s such an honor to be chosen among such talented
teachers.”
This nine-year veteran
teacher has been teaching at
Unionville for the past seven
years.
She said she is most
looking forward to getting
into other classrooms and
observing other teachers.
“I want to see what they’re
doing in their classrooms,” she
said. “I want to see what’s
happening across the county.”

known for investing her time
and energy not only into each
child in her classroom, but giving of herself to her colleagues and her
school, as well.
“An exemplary teacher indicates to students that she sincerely
cares about their learning,” VonCannon said. “Ms. Robinson gives true
meaning to the phrase, ‘Whatever it takes.’ She is committed to doing
what ever it takes to ensure the success of all. There is no doubt that
she will be fully committed to represent Union County Public Schools,
