Dr. Mike Webb selected 2014 Outstanding Leader
The North Carolina Technology in Society has recognized
Union County Public Schools Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mike
Webb with their 2014 Outstanding Leader Award.
“Working with Dr. Webb, his passion for providing the tools
and infrastructure our students and teachers need is very
evident,” said Monroe High School Principal Brad Breedlove,
who serves on the UCPS Technology Council. “He is a
tremendous educational leader.”
The Outstanding Leader Award, given to Webb on March 6,
2014, recognizes and honors one leader who has demonstrated
outstanding achievement and leadership in implementing
technology to improve education.
In addition to being honored at the NCTIES Conference
in Raleigh, Dr. Webb was awarded $2,500, with a $500
honorarium given to him, and up to a $2,000 reimbursement
towards the attendance cost to attend the ISTE Conference in
2015. Dr. Webb will also be featured in NCTIES publications
and on their web site.
UCPS is approaching its fourth year implementing
a successful 1:1 initiative. The school system began its
implementation in grades 6-8 and has expanded its initiative
to all secondary students, grades 6-12, with the deployment of
more than 23,250 Chromebooks.
UCPS Superintendent Dr. Mary Ellis said that the success
of the deployment, one of the largest in state history, can be
directly traced to the leadership of Dr. Webb.
“His influence in the area of technology has been
instrumental in ensuring that our every effort is focused on
preparing all students to succeed,” Dr. Ellis said.
Award recipients are selected from around the state of
