At a press conference immediately following the board approval, Board of Education Chair Dr. Richard Miller acknowledged the previous community support that brought this project to this point. Dr. Miller thanked the Blanche and Julian Robertson Family Foundation, Fred and Alice Stanback, the Rowan County Board of Commissioners, and the Salisbury City Council for their generosity and commitment to education. Dr. Miller introduced Lee and Mona Lisa Wallace as the district’s new funding partners supporting this project through purchase of the property on the 500 block of North Main. Mona Wallace spoke about wanting to do something special for the Salisbury and Rowan County citizens. Mrs. Wallace said that both she and her husband were educated in the Rowan and Salisbury public education systems and wanted to share this valued opportunity with the children of our community. The Wallace family has an established legacy of contributing to the educational and cultural needs of the community. The Rowan County and City of Salisbury school districts merged in 1989 with the intention to consolidate the two school system’s central offices into one location. “The excitement of today’s announcement brings that reality closer to fruition,” states Dr. Lynn Moody, Superintendent for the Rowan-Salisbury School System. “This is a long-awaited need and one that we are eager to complete.
