Koontz Elementary
Koontz Elem was selected from over 100 teams in
North Carolina to attend the 2014 NCDPI Student
Leadership Institute this summer! Seven of the
fearless Panther students and two teacher leaders
traveled to William Peace University from July
6-9 to work with the National Youth Council and
focus on student leadership practices that they
will put into practice at Koontz during the 201415 school year. Aiden Castor, Mia Cowan, Jessie
Bowers, Erik Stern, Manuel Jimenez, Maria Polk,
and Aniyah Ingram traveled with Mr. Anderson
and Mrs. Leak and represented student leadership
and Rowan-Salisbury extremely well!
Middle School Students
The FILM @ 6 program was in full swing during the
summer with students from China Grove, CorriherLipe, North Rowan, and Southeast middle schools.
Students were led through various team-building
activities and
exercises by
lead tutors and
site directors.

in Ecuador,
South America
in June. The
teachers had
the opportunity
to explore
connections
between
environmental
sustainability
and poverty;
experience and
learn about
Ecuadorian ecosystems and the people who live and work
in them; see successes that have helped families move
from poverty toward self-reliance, and learn how to share
this experience with their own students and with other
schools.
PBL Institute at Horizons Unlimited
RSS teachers and administrators had a busy summer
attending state and national conferences to further
prepare them for an extraordinary year or teaching and
